What do you eat/ What do you use Part 20

S             * Sushi, or in Japan, makizushi: I used brown rice but any kind is good. I just boiled a cup of rice in 2 cups of water with some rice vinegar, and then let it simmer until the water was gone. Add more rice vinegar to taste and then pop it in the fridge. I don’t have a bamboo rolling mat, I just used my hands. So spread the cooled rice onto a nori/seaweed sheet and add some vegetables in a corner or spread it out if you want the rolls to be thicker. I added mayonnaise (if you can’t buy vegan mayonnaise, here: http://www.thebuddhistchef.com/recipe/vegan-mayonnaise/ ) julienned carrots, cucumber, red capsicum, and avocado. But of course, you can fill it with whatever.

*                     *   Peanut Butter Banana smoothie: 2 ripe bananas, one frozen banana previously chopped, a tablespoon of peanut butter (Skippy’s doesn’t have palm oil) and dairy free milk in a blender. I usually have it so that the liquid covers half of the bananas in the blender. Add a teaspoon of chia seeds if you want some omega-3 in your life. I’m going through a peanut butter banana smoothie phase right now.

Yokohama adventures and the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum

They do have this particular rule where you must order a bowl of ramen when you go onto a shop. They usually offer mini bowls of ramen so that you can try more than one. But it got awkward when my friend was full and I went to get a second bowl of ramen. She ordered a drink, but I ordered some ramen and the waitress kept saying she had to order a bowl otherwise she couldn't sit inside. She brought her drink outside and I sat inside but that wasn't okay either. In the end, the poor waitress (I think this rule is stupid) gave up and my friend could have her drink with me inside while I had my ramen.

There were a lot of fish jumping out of the water near here. How messed up is it that people were recording it with their phones, but then go and pay for fish to be killed and then eat them? We 'love' animals but then our actions show we hate them or at least have no compassion for them.

Speaking of which, I wrote this on facebook:

‘Vegans always force their views on others’ – to the dear carnists that say and/or think this: If you had a friend that was brought up believing that they needed to stab dogs and eat them to survive, would you just be idle about it? Especially if that friend had pretty good morals overall despite supporting dog cruelty. What if you found out that the dogs that friend ate were not only killed unnecessarily for something as momentary as a meal, but also that the dogs suffered before they were slaughtered and/or during their slaughter? Wouldn’t you try to prove to that friend that they can be healthy without eating dogs; that there are plenty of other delicious things to eat; that dogs are wonderful creatures worthy of at least respect; that dogs suffer before becoming a meal? What if that friend told you to stop pushing your beliefs on them? How would you feel?

The reality is that animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate destruction. All animals suffer in some way when we use them as products. They are not products, but living sentient beings. There are a lot of other stuff we can eat that doesn't cause suffering.

Brown Sugar 1st in Harajuku. I had the mint chocolate and the chocolate nut flavour. Both were good! The mint one was super minty! As Char says, it tastes like a cross between sorbet and ice cream. 

The owner wanted to make sweets for her children that were less artificial and so this place stemmed from that. The ice cream is made from coconut milk and is dairy free, soy free, and gluten free 

The berry soda was super tasty too!

·         * Crackers from the shop Jupiter, and vegemite. I can’t buy marmite here.

·        *  Lentil dahl. The recipe is from http://www.thebuddhistchef.com/recipe/lentil-dhal-2/ … I added spinach because… why not?
·        *  Bread: add a teaspoon of yeast to a cup of water in a bowl. Sprinkle in some sugar (I don’t know, play around with the recipe) and let it sit for 5 minutes. After that, add a teaspoon of oil, and a teaspoon of salt. Then gradually keep adding in flour until it’s not sticky and you end up using your hands to knead the dough. Cover the bowl with glad wrap, and if you have access to sunlight, put the bowl under the sun for an hour, if not, no sunlight works too. After an hour, bake the dough for about 15 minutes or until it’s how you want it. I find my bread gets stale after two days so maybe toast it when it gets to that stage? ·        * Smoothie bowl: 2 ripe bananas, a handful of frozen berries, a teaspoon of chia seeds if you want omega 3. Add a little dairy free milk if you need too. Then top it off with whatever. I used granola, walnuts, and desiccated coconut.
