Peta has this post about being 99% vegan This makes me feel much better and I think they have a point. And there was a comment about how if everyone did turn almost vegan, the traces of cow milk and eggs in food like bread (I'm rarely going to buy it now though. I've found a site that sells bread that uses soy instead of cow milk, but it's five times the price) will naturally be alternated with something else anyway.
Also found this blog which is going to help me A LOT in Japan.
I think being 99% vegan is possible.
